Dr. Julian L. Ambrus Jr, is a Buffalo native who trained in Immunology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with Dr. Anthony Fauci and has pursued basic research and clinical practice in autoimmune diseases since that time. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy/Immunology. After NIH Dr Ambrus was a tenured Associate Professor in the Rheumatology Division at Washington University School of Medicine before returning to Buffalo, NY. He is currently a Professor in the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. His laboratory has developed an animal model for Sjogren’s Syndrome that has allowed new insights into the disease that have led to new diagnostic tests as well as potential new forms of therapy. Dr. Ambrus looks forward to establishing a Sjogren’s Center at Invision Health that will provide expert management of patients with Sjogren’s syndrome and work with various pharmaceutical companies to develop new forms of therapy. His NIH funded laboratory at SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine will continue basic studies investigating various factors contributing to the evolution of the disease.

Over the last 20+ years, Dr. Ambrus has identified metabolic disorders at the root of certain common symptoms, including fatigue, exercise intolerance, gastrointestinal dysmotility, recurrent infections and accelerated osteoarthritis. He has helped develop strategies to diagnose and treat these disorders. He will establish a center at Invision Health that will continue to improve the diagnosis and treatment of all types of metabolic disorders, some of which are inherited and some of which are acquired in the setting of infections, hypoxia and/or various toxin exposures.

Because of his unique training at the National Institutes of Health and Washington University, Dr. Ambrus will bring his expertise to Invision Health to help with the diagnosis and management of all types of immunological and rheumatological disorders including vasculitis, inflammatory arthritis, SLE, inflammatory muscle diseases, autoinflammatory syndromes, adult-onset immunodeficiencies, Raynaud’s, anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome and various other autoimmune disorders. He looks forward to working with the physicians and staff at Invision Health to optimize the diagnosis and treatment of these patients.  He will collaborate with all the physicians in the Buffalo community to make sure that each patient gets the care that they deserve.
