Not every patient requires invasive care, and some patients benefit from chiropractic treatment. Our Chiropractors work directly with Brain and Spine physicians and other specialty staff.

Altered function in nerves may be caused by abnormal movement in the spinal joints irritating spinal nerves by direct pressure, reflex or inflammation. This irritation may cause muscle spasms, headaches, pain, and numbness or tingling, especially in the arms, hands or legs.

Chiropractic care services often restore normal joint movement and relieves the mechanical stress put on nerves.

A new study suggests that chiropractic care, specifically neck and spine adjustments, may indeed lower blood pressure. For more details about chiropractic care services, please ask your primary care physician.

Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA)

Chronic back pain sufferers have discovered the benefits of a procedure called Manipulation Under Anesthesia, referred to as MUA. For patients that are not finding relief through conservative treatment or for those who may be facing surgery, MUA offers another effective alternative.

Studies have proven that MUA often reduces or eliminates pain and can greatly improve range of motion. In addition, if surgery can be avoided, the return to work and daily activity may be achieved earlier.

Candidates considered for this procedure include those with chronic neck, back or joint pain, those suffering from long-term disabilities or injuries and those that have not responded to other conventional therapies.

A specially trained chiropractic physician performs this non-invasive technique with guidance from a neurosurgeon. After a thorough diagnosis and evaluation, the MUA patient is sedated to achieve relaxation allowing the doctor to complete a series of adjustments and stretching movements. Light sedation allows the patient to be responsive and more relaxed thus contributing to a better adjustment. This procedure is typically repeated over a three-day period. Post-procedure care involves follow up visits to draft a rehabilitation plan including stretching, flexibility and strengthening exercises. A consistent program of post-MUA therapy will help the patient regain strength and help prevent pain and disability in the future.
